Hiking in the Kalkalpen National Park

Probably one of the most beautiful hiking areas in Austria is the Kalkalpen National Park. Hundreds of kilometers of marked hiking trails, equally suitable for families, leisure hikers and those who are active in sports, make our region come alive. Rustic alpine pastures and huts are ideal places to stop for a break on your hike. All hiking trails in the region can be found here: Hiking trails
We have 2 hikes a week, once with a professional national park supervisor and once with the manager of the house.

Our hiking tips

Ebenforstalm - Alpstein - Schaumbergalm 3,5 - 4 hours 834 m

Directions

From the Scheiblingau parking lot, it goes along the Krumme Steyrling on the forest road to the Jagahäusl .

Even the starting point Bodinggraben is worth a trip. The water-spouting "Maul-auf-Loch" , the former hermitage, the stately forester's house and the romantic Anna Chapel give this valley a special charm.

On the ascent to the Ebenforstalm on path no. 472, you can see where this ditch got its name from: Washouts in the rock caused by the water - so-called vats (popularly "Bodinge") - characterize the gorge landscape. On the Ebenforstalm (open May to October) every hiker can enjoy a decent snack to strengthen themselves. Those who still have enough strength can continue to the Alpstein (1,443 m) and the Großer Trämpl (1,424 m) hike. A wonderful panoramic view of the Sengsengebirge and the Hintergebirge awaits you here.

After this summit victory you hike over the Schaumbergalm (open from mid-May to October) back into the valley. In the "Jagahäusl" (open May to October - closed on Mondays) it is worth taking a break. The hut snack and a glass of cider really round off the hiking experience.

Along the Krumme Steyrling you reach the forest road and after a short hike back to the parking lot.

To the Grünburger Hut ca. 1 -1,5 hours 380 m

Directions

From the parking lot, follow forest path no. 480 to the left to the Wetterkreuz. You continue on a forest road to a large meadow and then on a forest path over serpentines up the mountain to the ridge and to the Grünburger hut.

The Grünburger Hütte invites you to enjoy a beautiful view of the foothills of the Alps.

Most popular and easiest ascent to the Grünburger Hütte. Sturdy shoes are recommended. Also suitable for children.
